March Update - Hibanacon 2017

Hello again to you, the Bright Sparks of Hibanacon. This week the committee is freshly back from a fantastic Minamicon, we’d like to give them a big thank you for all their kind words, advice, and the opportunity to speak to the attendees about Hibanacon! We’d also very much like to thank the Tokonatsu committee and the members of the former Auchinawa committee for their advice too!

It was a tremendously busy weekend for us talking to committees, dealers, and more so that we can keep on improving and bring you an even more packed event. Keep tuning into these monthly updates and the What’s On page for info as we’re aiming to bring you even more content after the weekend’s discussions.

 

One thing we can confirm for you, though, is that we will have Sweatdrop Studios in attendance to lend their hand not only in the dealers’ room but to bringing us some panels they’re talking over with our events officer. We were absolutely delighted to be able to discuss some of this with Morag at the weekend, and to put a face to the name we’ve been seeing on emails. If you don’t know Sweatdrop Studios then don’t worry, we have an upcoming spotlight article focussing on their work.

 

Moving on, another piece of news since the last monthly update is that registrations are now open! Thank you to all those who’ve bought a ticket so far; if you’ve not bought a ticket yet, or if you’ve friends who haven’t then now's the time!

 

Following on from this we’ve also put our Get Involved page live. If you want to gopher, run a panel, apply for a table in the dealers’ room, or show off your cosplay in the masquerade then this is the place to go. These all require registration prior to the event, and we won’t be taking further registrations over the course of the convention so if you do want to get involved then please get in touch as soon as possible so our committee can start the process. We’ve already run an article on gophering at the convention but we’ll be running further ones in future to explain how else you can get involved.

 

Two of our mascots have been revealed so far, and we think it’s time we reveal the remaining pair courtesy of our artist Tammy Taylor

 

 

We’re absolutely ecstatic with what Tammy’s done and we’re even now choosing where each piece will be represented on the website and around the convention! We’ve still got one big group piece to come, so look out for that. The hardest task now for the committee is working out what goes on the conbadges, and whether or not our attendees might like T-Shirts with another piece of art on…

 

Now we move onto the articles you can expect over the next few weeks:

 
  • Meet the Committee: Vice President - After meeting our events officer you’ll get to know the Hibanacon Vice President a little bit better, maybe even put a face to an Internet moniker.
  • Spotlight on Portal Entertainment - Portal are supplying us with Pocky for attendees, and stocking the board game room. Now you get to know a little bit more about them.
  • Volunteering at Hibanacon: Panels - We talk with our events officer a little bit more about the process of volunteering for panels and just how you can help out.
