October Update - Hibanacon 2017
Written by Mike on 13/10/2017

Hello once more to you the bright sparks of Hibanacon, and welcome to another monthly update. We’re in October now, less than a month away from Hibanacon itself, and we’re all at action stations here at Hibanacon HQ.

First up we need to talk about how attendees can get involved at Hibanacon. We are in need of Gophers for the weekend, we have some already but we do need more. If you don’t know what gophering is then we already have an article for you here and there will be some small rewards for for at least some of those who get involved thanks to our friends at MVM. If you’d like to apply then go here, we’d love to hear from you (if you’ve already applied and haven’t had a response please get in touch again so we can make sure your application hasn’t gone missing).

Also on the topic of getting involved we have panel applications. Our events officer has now declared that we are full for panels. This is incredible news and I’m really happy to say we’ve been overwhelmed by the quality and variety we’ve been presented with. We’re aiming to have our schedule with panelists inside the next week, and with the general public in the next two weeks.

Secret schedule is secret.

No peeking at the schedule just yet...

Still on getting involved we have the Masquerade! We’ve had some applications for slots in the Masquerade, and for skits but please do remember we will not be taking applications for either of these at the convention you, all applications must reach us by the evening of Thursday November 9th. You can apply here!

So far we’ve talked about ways to get involved with the events of the convention, but how about the convention as a whole? We’ll be running registration, much like the Masquerade, up until the day of the event itself. Yes, registration will close at 23:59 on November 9th with badges ready to pick up from Friday Morning. Please do note, as it says in the FAQ, that registrations in the last 14 days running up to the convention may not receive a personalised badge.

Speaking of deadlines we announced last week that we would be selling Hibanacon T-Shirts. We’ve pretty much replicated the committee shirts you might have seen at other events, and they will be available for pickup with your con pack at registration for £16 a shirt here. You can buy these up to the last day of October, so make sure to have your order in sooner rather than later if you want one!

Finally we can reveal some of our screening schedule. We’ll have seven movies throughout the weekend, including two running in our overnight 23:00-01:00 slots for those of you who want a more sedate alternative to the party, but aren’t quite ready for bed (there’s also the board games, and video games rooms until Late/Early). So, here’s the list:

  • Giovanni’s Island
  • Patema Inverted
  • Evangelion 1.11
  • Miss Hokusai
  • Perfect Blue
  • The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
  • Letter to Momo

If you haven’t seen any one of these films they are well worth a watch, and come recommended by the Hibanacon Vice President.

That wraps us up for this update, we’re just a few short weeks away now and hope to have even more announcements to make before you come to see us. Remember to like and/or follow us on Facebook/Twitter, and if you’d like to get in touch by email you can do so here.
